Dr. Tan is a former professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (Chemistry and Food Science/Nutrition). His research expertise includes lipid-soluble materials including carotenoids, tocotrienols/tocopherols, CoQ10, Omega 3s, and cholesterol. He founded American River Nutrition, Inc. in 1998 and developed the first tocopherol-free tocotrienol product derived from annatto beans.
Rob Meyering is currently Vice President, Medical Science-North America for the Bausch+Lomb Pharmaceutical Business Unit where he has built and leads a team of MD’s, PharmD’s and PhD’s that is committed to providing timely medical information and medical affairs support to eye care professionals in the USA and Canada. Prior to this role, Rob worked in a variety of Commercial leadership positions (VP, Marketing; VP, Commercial Strategy) with 20 years of experience in the ophthalmic marketplace. After B+L acquired Storz, Rob went on to complete the work that had been started with the NEI on the AREDS study.
Ms. Troyer is the co-owner and CEO of Biosyntrx, Inc. She is well-respected in the supplement industry as an educator, a formulation designer and company owner involved with all aspects of manufacturing in order to guarantee that FDA and FTC regulatory requirements are followed. She is a voting member of the Washington, D.C.-based Council for Responsible Nutrition and a member of The Natural Products Association. Ms. Troyer’s passion for nutrition science education, as it relates to the supplement industry, is contagious and her dedication to the eye care profession insures that the ONS collective industry voices will be heard by the ophthalmic profession.
Mr. Northup is Founder and President/CEO for EyeScience Labs. EyeScience develops and markets science-based nutraceutical products for ocular health. Their products are available nationwide through retail pharmacies as well as the offices of recommending optometrists and ophthalmologists. Mr. Northup attended and received a Bachelor of Science degree from The Ohio State University.
Dr. Paul Krawitz is President and Majority Shareholder of Vitamin Science, Inc. He is a High Honors graduate of The University of Michigan, and is a member of the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Dr. Krawitz holds the academic position of Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in Manhattan. In his position as President and C.E.O. of Vitamin Science, Inc., Dr. Krawitz holds several patents and trademarks for nutritional supplements for macular health and relief of dry eye symptoms.
Dr. Gierhart is co-founder and chairman of ZeaVision, LLC. Dr. Gierhart was also the founder of AFB International, where much of the early zeaxanthin technology was developed. Dr. Gierhart
received his Ph.D. from Cornell University in 1978, where he first became interested in nutritional biochemistry. He was the first human to take zeaxanthin formulations and sponsored early research on basic mechanisms of ocular protection by zeaxanthin. He remains active in the area of macular pigment and helped launch a simple device to measure macular pigment optical density (MPOD) in the Optometric clinic.
Mr. Brian Banks has specialized in the business of natural medicine for 21 years. He began as the Marketing Director, and then was promoted to General Manager of U.S. Operations for the Similasan Corporation, the leading Swiss maker of homeopathic medications. In 2001 he founded Natural Ophthalmics, Inc. a “doctor only” natraceutical company specializing in treatments for the most common eye conditions ranging from dry eyes to glaucoma and macular degeneration.
Karl Eisleben is the co- owner and CEO of Lipotriad LLC. Lipotriad develops and markets nutraceutical vitamins designed to help preserve eye health. Lipotriad products are available through on line retailers, retail pharmacies, as well as the offices of recommending optometrists . After a long career in consumer goods marketing, Karl purchased Lipotriad with a partner in 2009.
Joe Kuncewitch is the National Sales Manager for AstaReal, Inc., a division of Japanese pharmaceutical company Fuji Chemical Industry, Ltd. AstaReal, Inc. is the producer of AstaREAL® Natural Astaxanthin, from Haematococcus pluvialis algae source.
Joe "K", as he is known by his colleagues, has been in the specialty sales business for nearly 20 years and he is celebrating his 7th year with AstaReal. He is responsible for driving sales in North and South Americas for AstaReal's unique, patented ingredients. Joe holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Villanova University.
Kelly C. Heimis a Nutritional Pharmacologist in Research and Development. He is a graduate of Dartmouth Medical School, where he studied molecular pharmacology, epigenetics and functional genomics. His publications and lectures have highlighted evolving concepts in polyphenol biochemistry, nutritional endocrinology and nutrigenomics.
